Tribal Research Centre - Tamil Nadu

The Tribal Research Centre (TRC) was established on second October 1983 at Udhagamandalam and is functioning on its own 25 acres of hill terrain at M. Palada (Muthorai Palada), 10 kms away from Ooty bus stand. Tribal Research Centre is working with Ministry of Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare, Government of Tamil Nadu, Chennai

Establishment

The Tribal Research Centre initially under the control of registrar of Tamil University, Thanjavur was established at Udhagamandalam Nilgris district of Tamil Nadu in the year of 1983-1984.
In the year of 1995, as per the G.O.Ms No. 161, Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Department of Tamil Nadu, Date: 30.09.1995, government have issued orders for taking over the administrative control of the Tribal Research Centre (TRC) from the Tamil University Thanjavur.

Management

Tibal Research Centre (TRC) of Tamil Nadu is managed by a fulltime director and staffs from 01.02.1996.

The expenditure is met by both central and state government on 50:50 basis.

The Tribal Research Centre of Tamil Nadu is very much identified as tribal essential institute for the welfare of the 37 scheduled tribes of Tamil Nadu.

For the overall development of the scheduled tribes, schemes like Tribal sub-plan is implemented every year in Tamil Nadu.
